This years event will be September 15, 2012 at the New Pickens County Career & Technology Center
This is an awesome day of fun-filled, interactive
safety activities for children ages 4 -14 that are exposed to hazards
that may be found on farms, farmsteads or just around the home.
I encourage every parent to get their children
involved in this very worthwhile day. Information and forms are linked

If nothing ever changed, there would be no butterflies! Author unknown Our farm and lives are once again in a state of metamorphosis, hopefully much as the caterpillar or the future butterfly. It seems that nothing will just stay the same and that is probably a good thing. Economic conditions of the 2009 & 2010 seasons have been very hard on us. The plant industry is very enjoyable and has given us some great friends over the years, but it is also a great deal of stress and pressure that basically comes down to a 12 week sales season. Our family has a deep love for agriculture and we want to have a lasting presence in this business. We have made the decision to change the direction we are going with our farm and seek a philosophy that will allow us to be more sustainable and focus more on direct marketing to the consumer. It is also our hope that this will allow us time to enjoy working together doing what we love, without the breakneck pace of getting the next load of plants delivered. We will no longer be concentrating on large scale production of vegetable transplants and other plants but will instead focus on being a premier source of specialty herbs & vegetables, unique flowering perennials and annuals as well as continuing to grow as a source of quality daylily plants for the home garden consumer. We hope to be ready with some material to sale during a limited sales season this summer. We do plan to hold Daylily Daze this summer, June 17 & 18, 2011. Four years ago, we began to market eggs from hens on grass pastures. There is a great deal of information promoting the health and taste benefit of these eggs. We are excited about the improvements we are seeing in our forage quality (and quantity) in the areas where the poultry have been. Our son's interest in Southdown Sheep as a youth livestock project is leading us to the next step: direct marketing, of quality lamb and beef products. In reality, we are still 3-4 years away from public sales in this area. |
These decisions were not
reached hastily and God has richly blessed us as this has unfolded.
After making the decision that Nancy would have
to seek a job, she was employed as an ag teacher 2 weeks later.
She loves what she is doing and is making a difference. After more than 25
years out of a college educational theory class, she passed the Praxis test
on the first attempt! As the final deadline for property taxes drew even
closer and how to pay was becoming very uncertain, an unexpected refund
check for nearly the same amount came in the mail. It seems that as
every obstacle was beginning to loom large on
the horizon, God opened a door and provided a blessing that was exactly what
we needed. We appreciate the support of our loyal customers and are seeing from the number of you stopping by and calling that you appreciate our product. We know we need a break and in God's time we hope to help to meet your needs once again. Thank you. |
